The lambs are arriving!! They are so cute. Seeds are ordered for the garden. We'll soon start in the grow room planting seeds. The weather has been wonderful and so plans are being made to start in the maple bush.

Happy New Year!!
The seed catalogues have arrived and I'm busy looking through them. Planning for the spring. CSA shares are available so send in your deposits to hold your spot.
The house got a new exterior and insulation so we are enjoying the warmth. No more drafty windows. I got a new porch which I'll enjoy in the warm weather. Looking forward to that.
Arlee aquired 2 more Canadian horses, Tequila and Naomi. The 2 young Canadians (Fanny and Molly) that he's been training all summer have worked well together on the scoot hauling manure. We've had Pearl and Babe doing  some family sleighrides. Anyone looking for a relaxing ride just call and book a time.  We charge $50/hr.

2 1/2  weeks left of the CSA . The weather has warmed up again. The garden is still going strong but we're starting to get ready for winter. We've added a few milk cows and calves to our roster.  Saratoga, Cinder, Snowflake, Jughead, Bella and Arnie. The pigs are loving the fresh milk.  We have some ducks and geese and hope to add pictures soon.

Rain!!

We're thankful for the rain this week. The garden has gotten dry. This week will be the first week for the CSA baskets. Looking forward to getting that started. We've been busy this month.  The potatoes bugs are thick in the garden so its on our hands and knees picking and squishing them to save the plants. Sounds like everyone is in the same boat. The new green house is working well. Tomatoes are blooming and cucumbers are growing well. We have a lettuce bed in there also and its been cut once but has re-grown again so we'll get another cutting off of it. The strawberries are starting to turn red. Asparagus has started to slow down. Lots of transplanting this week of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, chinese cabbage and the last of the tomatoes and herbs (sweet basil, spicy basil, cilantro, thyme, chives, and lemon balm). Egg plant goes in the greenhouse and the watermelon and cantalope. The house is getting new siding, windows and basement wall. Arlee has built a fence for the sheep....finally. Gates will go on this week and then they can stay out of my yard. The sheep have gotten really smart...if the gate isn't chained they will push on it to open it and get out. This week  Arlee got 2 new horses to break and it is going great. He's never done that before so a learning curve for him and the horses.

Seeds are in the ground!

Moved the greenhouse to new ground yesterday.  The spinach, swiss chard and onions from last year are poking their heads through the ground. The rhubard is up. Worked the old ground and planted onions, carrots, radishes, lettuce, beets, peas, beans and potatoes. Greenhouse should be warm enough to plant in later this week. Grandpa is building a greenhouse onto the end of the hen house because the plant room is overflowing. Grandma is busy transplanting.

We had a fantastic maple syrup run this year. Now to get the lines all washed and put away.

The baby chicks have arrived and growing fast. We've had 3 litters of pigs this spring so there will be lots of pork available come summer. We got some goats, 1 momma, 1 baby, and a yearling.
2 classes of school children came to visit the farm a couple weeks ago and we had fun! They planted seeds, toured the barn to see all the baby animals, had a hayride through the sugar bush and then had a tour of the sugar camp.

Happy New Year!! Well the seed catalogues have arrived and I'm having fun going through them and getting my order ready. The tomatoes seeds will go in the pots in 2 weeks. I've moved my starter room so will get at setting that up. My kitchen is getting new cupboards so we're living in a mess at the moment. We are expanding our CSA share numbers so if you know anyone that is interested in participating in our program please let them know. We are accepting deposits to hold your share as of today. Looking forward to  the year ahead.

Wow what a fantastic season. Thanks everyone for working throught the kinks with us. The pigs went into the garden when we were finished and cleaned it up except for the leeks. We had our first little lamb this week.  The first seed catalogue arrived and is putting me in the mood for spring. So on goes the farming. Wishing everyone a happy holiday.
